More than 56 percent of drivers involved in deadly motorcycle accidents do not make it, and the number of these fatalities has risen by more than 25 percent over the last ten years. What The Data Shows

In 2025, Texas was identified as one of the riskiest states for motorcycle riders, coming in just behind Hawaii. A significant portion of the state’s deadly motorcycle incidents, specifically 14.07%, can be linked to its extensive road systems and high traffic volumes. In 2022 alone, there were 574 fatalities resulting from motorcycle accidents, which translates to an average of 14.56 deaths for every 10,000 registered motorcycles. Nearly 50% of the drivers in these deadly crashes were found to be speeding, and 44.99% of them had consumed alcohol.

In total, there were 558 deadly motorcycle accidents, which accounts for a fatality rate of 14.07%. These incidents resulted in the loss of 574 lives. When looking at the statistics, it shows that for every 10,000 registered motorcycles, there are approximately 14.56 fatalities. Among those involved in these fatal accidents, 978 were motorcycle operators. Additionally, nearly 45% of these crashes involved drivers under the influence of alcohol, while about 49% were linked to speeding drivers.

It’s No Surprise Accidents Increase During Summer Months

Motorcycle accidents have been increasing overall, but some days are riskier than others. Between 2013 and 2022, the summer months of June, July, and August recorded the highest number of fatal motorcycle accidents. In contrast, the winter months of January, February, and December usually see the lowest rates of such incidents.

Motorcycle accidents that happen on weekends are significantly more lethal. While just over 54% of deadly accidents take place during the weekdays, weekends account for almost 46% of these incidents, despite being only two days. On average, there are about 666 fatal motorcycle accidents on weekdays, whereas the number skyrockets to 1,413 on Saturdays and Sundays.

Far More Men Ride Motorcycles

Between 2013 and 2022, an alarming 92% of motorcycle driver fatalities involved men. In contrast, a national survey conducted by the Motorcycle Industry Council in 2018 revealed that only 19% of motorcycle riders were women, which distorts the statistics on fatalities.
